This web page is designed for the project of Geotechnical Review of Canadian Underground Coal Mining Practice project. The objective of the project is that to establish a "best practice" base-line for both conducting geological & geomechanical assessments, to apply findings in geotechnical design and operation of underground coal mines in Canada and to make the findings readily available via computer data base/internet.

During the "Technical Forum" meeting which was held on November 26, 1998 it was noted by the operators that the proposal for a generic review of design approaches and alternatives could be improved and a more specific technical focus was suggested. It was agreed that proposals be prepared by the Operators which will look at Geological Assessment and Rock Mass Rating Systems for underground coal mines in Canada. The Executive committee agreed at its February 1999 meeting to proceed with a combined project taking compatable components from the three proposals received, for implementation over the next year.
